Super Tuesday - Data Report for California Democratic Primary Poll

March 2, 2020

Purpose

This report shares data from a poll Zeeto conducted on the California Democratic primary for the 2020 presidential election.

Methodology

From February 26 to March 2, we surveyed 2,416 Democrats who are registered to vote in California and expressed being likely to vote in the primary.

First we asked the following question: “How are you registered to vote in the state of California?”

Answers
  • Republican
  • Democrat
  • Independent
  • Other
  • I am not registered to vote in California

To control for position bias, we rotated the top four answers every time the poll was run.
Those who answered Democrat moved on to the next question.

Then we asked the following question: “Are you planning to vote in the Democratic California primary this Tuesday?”

  • Yes, I'm extremely likely to vote
  • Yes, I'm very likely to vote
  • Yes, I'm somewhat likely to vote
  • No, I'm unlikely to vote

Those who answered “No” or “Yes, I’m somewhat likely to vote” did not move on to the next question.

Finally we asked the following question: “If the primary were held today, who would you vote for?”

  • Bernie Sanders
  • Joe Biden
  • Elizabeth Warren
  • Pete Buttigieg
  • Michael Bloomberg
  • Tom Steyer
  • Amy Klobuchar
  • A candidate not in this list
  • I’m still not sure

To control for position bias, we rotated all of the answers except the last one every time the poll was run.

As a last step, we weighted all responses to ensure the sample data was representative of the targeted population on the basis of age and gender.

1. Bernie Sanders - 31.1%
